Jackie Drakeford
Jackie's interest in animals and natural healing dates from her childhood in a New Forest village, along with her interest in working dogs. She is a qualified physiotherapist and an ITEC qualified aromatherapist although retired from this work now.
Jackie is a Kennel Club Accredited Instructor and Behaviourist with a specialist interest in sighthounds and lurchers. She says:
"Lurchers and sighthounds need people and especially trainers who understand their specific temperaments and needs. Often this type of dog is rehomed through a Rescue source which with the best of intentions does not give correct advice on how to manage it, or else is taken to trainers who are not aware of just how different from other dogs they are. I have extensive experience of working with prey drive, and can help people who have taken on a retired working lurcher and want it to adjust to life as a pet, as well as providing basic instruction for new owners who would like to work their dogs.
Jackie works on a consultancy basis with the assessment of rescue dogs, and is available as guest trainer to training groups in West Sussex. She is a regular contributor to a number of countryside publications including Shooting Times, Sporting Shooter and Countryman's Weekly, and the author of seven books including two written with Mark.
